چکیده

Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the retention of glass ionomer sealant, Vitro Molar® (DFL) and Ketac Molar Easy Mix® (3 m ESPE) as pit and fissure sealants on first permanent molars, fully or partially erupted. Methods The study sample consisted of 412 molars, among 110 children. The sealant retention was evaluated after 6 months of the application. Results The results were collected through digital photographs and the retention results were assessed by the following System: score 0 total retention; score 1 sealant present in more than 50% of the pit and fissure system; score 2 sealant present in less than 50% of the pit and fissure system; score 3 missing sealant. Regarding the presence of the sealants in less than 50% of the occlusal surface, lower percentages were found for the two materials used as follows: score score 2 Vitro Molar® (9,52% examiner 1 and 11.9% examiner 2) and score 2 Ketac Molar Easy Mix® (9.52% examiner 1 and 10.71% examiner 2). Approximately 90% of the teeth sealed with Ketac Molar Easy Mix® or Vitro Molar® presented total loss (score 3). Thus, there was no statistical difference between the materials and between the examiners (p>0.05). Conclusion Therefore it was concluded that the sealant retention in the studied population was not satisfactory for any of the materials used. Indexing terms: Glass ionomer cements. Molar. Pit and fissure sealants.

In vitro evaluation of the retention of zirconia-based ceramic posts luted with glass ionomer and resin cements.

The retention of zirconia-based ceramic posts (CosmoPost system) luted with glass ionomer and resin cements was evaluated. Thirty-two extracted, caries-free, unrestored teeth were selected and stored in chlorhexidine and water solution. The teeth were endodontically treated and randomly assigned to two groups (n=16). Each tooth was decoronated and prepared to a depth of 10.0 mm from root surfac...

A Comparative Evaluation of Microleakage of Glass Ionomer Cement and Chitosan-modified Glass Ionomer Cement: An in vitro Study

OBJECTIVE To do a comparative study of microleakage of glass ionomer cement (GIC) and chitosan modified glass ionomer cement and evaluate which exhibited lesser microleakage. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty freshly extracted sound primary molar teeth were obtained. Two groups of samples were created for the study which comprised of group I (glass ionomer cement-GIC) and group II (Chitosan modifie...

Shear bond strength evaluation of resin composite to resin-modified glass-ionomer cement using three different resin adhesives vs. glass-ionomer based adhesive

Background: The clinical success of sandwich technique depends on the strength of resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) bonding to both dentin and resin composite. Therefore, the shear bond strength (SBS) of resin composite bonded to RMGIC utilizing different resin adhesives versus a GIC-based adhesive was compared. Materials and methods: In this in vitro study, 84 holes (5×2 mm) were pre...

The Effect of Compressive Cyclic Loading on the Retention of Cast Single Crowns Cemented to Implant Abutments.

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the retention strength of three cements commonly used in implant-supported prostheses before and after compressive cyclic loading. MATERIALS AND METHODS The working model consisted of five solid abutments, 7 mm in height and with a 6-degree taper, screw retained to five implant analogs secured in a rectangular block of self-curing acry...

بررسی اثر زمان‌های مختلف اولتراسونیک بر گیر پست‌های پیش ساخته سمان شده با دو سمان مختلف

Background and Aims: In case of nonsurgical endodontic re-treatment or replacing a restoration, one of the best methods for removing post from the canal is using an ultrasonic vibration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of ultrasonic vibration time on the retention of post luted with zinc phosphate or glass ionmer cements.   Materials and Methods: 96 sound extracted lower prem...

Barodontalgia: a review, and the influence of simulated diving on microleakage and on the retention of full cast crowns.

This paper reviews the causes of barodontalgia and reports on a study that indicates a possible cause of barodontalgia in the diver. In the study, extracted teeth had full cast crowns cemented with either a zinc phosphate, a glass ionomer, or a resin cement, and simulated diving to 30 m (3.0 atmospheres) was performed. During simulated diving, the teeth were pressure cycled 15 times to 3 atmosp...
